“This growth is nice, but I think it’s going to kill us!”

“Look at the great results we achieved during training. Why did things go back to the way they were when the training was over?”

“Why are we constantly solving the same problems over and over?”

“Business was booming, but all of a sudden it took a nosedive. What’s going on?”

We tend to get caught up in the daily routine of the job and miss the bigger picture of what is going on around us. Things happen, and we respond. That’s business, right? Well, it doesn’t have to be.

In 1990, Peter M. Senge published a groundbreaking book called “The Fifth Discipline.” Senge describes Systems Thinking as “the one discipline that brings the others together.” In this highly interactive seminar, you will use the tools of Systems Thinking to help understand the problems you have been losing sleep over. Through intense hands-on exercises, the systemic structures that cause your headaches will be identified to see what sort of intervention might lead to long lasting improvement. In this practical workshop, you’ll learn how to:

Day One will begin with an understanding of “work” at different levels, and lead into hands-on exercises with Causal Loop Diagrams and System Archetypes. Real life examples will be used to illustrate the usefulness of Systems Thinking in improving organizational issues. Your own personal examples will be used in hands-on exercises. Participants will experience two extremes in systemic design. In the Red Bead Experiment, participants have absolutely no decision-making power. The game is played in a strictly “do as you’re told” format. In the Beer Game, an exciting supply chain simulation, people have complete control over their actions. The results will change the way you think about the idea of “control.” Day Two will delve deeper into the use of Systems Thinking for improvement as well as the creation of the desired future. The majority of the day will be spent working on issues important to your organization. This is a very personalized and instantly applicable workshop. It will change the way you think about business.
