Redesigning the Organization
Redesigning the Organization is a customized in-house workshop that helps participants to redesign some aspect of the organization that is important to them. The workshop content is designed around a chronic organizational problem chosen by the client. The workshop model relies heavily on building a shared understanding of the current situation. A common roadblock in organizational improvement is the lack of a shared understanding of current reality. Each person sees the situation from his or her own perspective, so solutions can only be created from a limited understanding of the full story. In this workshop, individual perceptions are discussed through group exercises, and the tools of Systems Thinking are used to create a shared understanding. By discussing the effect of the current situation on everyone’s job, participants realize they are all part of the same system, and it makes no sense to blame each other for their problems. Next, a shared vision of the desired change is developed, along with a plan to create it.
This method of organizational improvement leverages the power of different perspectives in creating change. Commitment to the change is strong, because everyone is involved in creating it.
