Realizing Excellence in Management
Realizing Excellence in Management introduces the basic concepts and tools of enlightened management referred to as Neoteric Leadership. Neoteric Leaders have profound skills in three areas:
- Developing a Shared Sense of Purpose
- Developing People
- Developing and Improving Systems
The workshop begins by reviewing the two orientations of management, ideas that influence what we do daily as leaders. The concept of a system is demonstrated through two games: the Red Bead Experiment and The Beer Game. The games represent two extremes in business systems. Through these simulations, the limitations of current management practices will be experienced firsthand. Participants will see the importance of systems thinking, and the difference between knowledge that leads to sound decision-making and knowledge that doesn’t. They will discover how to create desired business results by practicing tools for making thinking visible.
The workshop will continue by practicing the art of team learning. Participants will learn how to develop shared visions without compromising personal visions. They will practice skills found to enhance the effectiveness of teams, and learn how the tools of Systems Thinking can be used to analyze otherwise hidden systemic structures. The seminar will conclude with a group exercise called “The Real-World Improvement Activity,” linking the earlier experience with the Red Bead Experiment and the Beer Game with Systems Thinking. This exercise will demonstrate how to make real-world improvements in participants’ own organizations.
